Exhibition (participation): Sound it - Rádio Antecâmara
Next Tuesday (15th March) at 6 pm in Garagem Sul - Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon) will open the exhibition Sound it - Rádio Antecâmara, curated by Alessia Allegri and Pedro Campos Costa. During the exhibition’s timeline, several authors will deliver live radio shows from the assembled radio studio at the heart of the exhibition. I’ll occupy it during the week from the 22nd until 27th March with my radio show Requested Books.
Can the architect imagine and create a space never built without, unconsciously, populating its trace with words once read and welcomed by memory? Fiction and poetry are almost always invisible threads in architectural composition. It is not a matter of establishing correspondences between structures, cadences and rhythms, but of evoking a formless matter that only fiction and poetry can shape, approaching the unspeakable experience of bodies, the same experience that the exercise of designing seeks to touch. In the few cases of an encounter, the spaces acquire a reverberation of life itself and the power of remembrance (as a feeling of impersonal and eternal presence). Requested Books is the b-side of the radio show Spatial Aphorisms of Rádio Antecâmara. It departs from a request to several invited architects (José Neves, Pedro Maurício Borges, Luísa Bebiano, and Inês Dantas) to select an excerpt from a book of fiction or poetry as the touchstone for our talk about literature, architecture, cinema and, eventually, other artistic practices.
